The 3 distinguishing features of Fjäderholmarna: Food, snaps "Brännvin" & ammunition.

Food
These features are dated back to 1670 with the build of a boarding house
and later on a restaurant. The islanders and other people from Stockholm
visited Fjäderholmarna specially between 1920 and 1930, when the Belvedèren
Restaurant was situated on the highest plateau on the island, facing the beautiful channel.

Snaps "Brännvin"
In 1880 "The king of snaps", L.O. Smith, challenged the rules for serving alcoholic beverages
in Stockholm. The snap made by Smith was ten times distilled, but he did not have the permit
to sell it within the city borders, therefor he opted Fjäderholmarna and became successful in
the selling of his snaps; until the city of Stockholm managed to stop his business through Lidingö
state to which Fjäderholmarna belonged.

Ammunition
In 1918, the marine build an ammunition factory on Fjäderholmarna. By the outbreak of Second
World War they overtook the island completely. The Belvedèren Restaurant was demolished and
a disembarkment prohibition was announced. The prohibition was annulled in 1985 when themilitary
left the island.

Fjäderholmarna
Today, Fjäderholmarna is owned by the state, belonging to Lidingö.
